My hands have really been full. I mean really full. I had to go for a conference with a turnout of about ten thousand attendees. It really stretched me out as I was a service provider at the week-long conference. It was a huge success for me. Know why? It was because the very same things I share with you in these posts are the things that my team and I put in place for the conference.
Back to today’s business. In my last post I gave you an assignment. I told you to write down the unique thing that you can offer your client. I want to believe that you took it seriously and did it. If you haven’t, right now is the best time to stop reading this, do the assignment and come back right away and continue with this post. The things I am sharing with you work, but success comes only when you IMPLEMENT and IMPLEMENT! So, don’t forget, assignments are important!
As a business owner you have to be known for something and something specific. You have to be master of one and not a jack of all trades. That’s the way you become visible and attract a specific target market.
Think … Apple.
What do you know Apple for?
Think … Google.
What do you know Google for?
Think … Starbucks.
What do you know Starbucks for?
Let’s look at it this way. If you want to get a premium quality phone, where do you go?
If you want to do a search online, where do you go? Catch the drift?
You’ve got to be known for something in particular, to pull, to attract your target market. It makes you more visible. It positions you as the go-to expert, the authority figure.
You have to position yourself in such a way that your clients know what you are about upfront or you stand a great risk of confusing potential clients about your product/services. A confused customer almost certainly always walks away.
Company A offers web design, social media marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), copywriting, conversion optimization, and more.
Company B offers just SEO and copywriting services.
Assume that you are looking for a copywriter who can write good copies for your new website or product. And you know about both companies.
Chances are you will choose company B over A because they speak directly to your need since that’s their clearly stated specialty.
To differentiate you and your company to attract specific target clients, you can’t be known for everything. You have to make a stand for something. You have to choose what your business will stand for and what you’ll be known for. By making a stand and choosing something that makes your business unique, you’ll become known for that unique quality and stand out from the crowd.
